About Us
Universal Standard is a New York-based fashion brand founded in 2015 by Polina Veksler and Alexandra Waldman. The brand was created around a straightforward idea: fashion should be accessible across the full size spectrum, rather than dividing collections into separate standard and plus-size categories. Universal Standard currently offers its collection in sizes 00–40, with the same styles, fabrics and pricing philosophy across the range.
The collection focuses on modern wardrobe essentials that can move between work, weekends and everyday life. Women's clothing includes dresses, tops, T-shirts, blouses, shirts, trousers, denim, skirts, knitwear, sweaters, jackets, coats and athleisure pieces. Current collections also include intimates and other foundational wardrobe styles.
Fit is central to Universal Standard's approach. Rather than simply scaling one sample pattern upward or downward, the brand says it engineers and fit-tests garments across its size range. Its current site identifies size 18 as its sample starting point and emphasizes engineering individual sizes to achieve consistent fit and proportion.
Universal Standard also emphasizes fabric quality, highlighting materials such as Peruvian cotton, stretch linen, Italian wool, French satin-back crepe and engineered denim. Its Fit Liberty program adds another practical element by allowing eligible garments to be exchanged for a different size within a specified period when a customer's size changes.
